Zenwalk was formerly known as Minislack, a lightweight Slackware derivative. Zenwalk Linux focuses on Internet applications, multimedia and coding tools. The first Zenwalk release, v1.2, was released August 12, 2005. The first ZenLive Linux LiveCD was released June 30, 2006. Zenwalk 7.4 was released February 13, 2014. Zenwalk Live 7.4 was released April 28, 2014. Zenwalk 8.0 was released July 2, 2016. Zenwalk 220217 was released February 22, 2017.
